Re: Stuffs to read before going to bed
I guess it is/was uncommon for companies to design custom ICs as the need came up, and more often than not they used a gate array from another manufacturer. But it would be branded with their own logo so you'd never know who made it unless you looked at the die.
Toshiba has this great manual all about the guidelines and pitfalls of implementing your circuit in one of their gate arrays, circa 1997:

It's the most fascinating thing I've read in a long time. I suppose FPGAs have replaced gate arrays in some/many applications, but it's still cool stuff.
I wonder if there are more manuals like this from other vendors out there. I'd love to see something similar for older (80's) parts or for very new ones.

I wonder if they are doing some weird blocking based on a visitor's IP. The link as-is works for me. I'll see if I can find a mirror!MooZ wrote:Charles, it seems that you must have an account to download it

It's working now. I don't know why I couldn't access it yesterday. Maybe the site was under maintenance... grmbl... internet... grmbl...
By the way, if the doc is not too big you can join it as attachement to your post via the "upload attachment" tab below.

Nice find Tanuki!

It's not a doc.
Here's a visual gate simulator for the 6502 processor [url].
