Thx!
And here's a new batch of links : I think it may be possible to avoid using a microcontroller by using a FTDI 245R. Hmm gotta buy one :D

Thanks for the cool link Tanuki!

In the comments for that article there is a link to a guy who augmented the 65C02's illegal instructions (which were converted to NOPs) to implement entirely new functions based on external microcode and other crazy stuff:

http://laughtonelectronics.com/arcana/B ... onPg1.html

This may be the most awesome thing you can do with a 65C02 ever. It's sort of a dense read but just incredible. I wonder how long it took to design and debug the whole thing.

I am on a roll tonight! Sony's semiconductor division has a lightweight technical journal of sorts ("CX-NEWS") where they discuss new parts. And they have ~50 issues online now:

http://www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/cx_n ... umber.html

Lots of interesting stuff in here, you can see the trends in memory, Sony audio products (MiniDisc, etc.) over the years, and little known weird things like the successor to the SNES SPC700 CPU, the SPC700αII.

I think NEC has or had a similar set of journals on their Japanese website. Any idea if it still exists or is archived somewhere?

I wonder what the origin of the name comes from, as all the Sony chips have the prefix CX as well...

It's a mystery... I really don't know.

Tanuki : nice link :)

Here's a bunch of other ones. There's not much to read but they might be useful.

The dynamic recompilation document seems useful. Thanks.
