An in-depth description of how to make a DRAM controller with programmable logic that supports FPM/EDO DRAM:

http://datasheets.chipdb.org/Intel/8096 ... 262801.pdf

Written for the i960, but it applies to the 68020 and any other CPU that provides indicators about sequential memory accesses to the DRAM controller.

And here's information about designing a regular DRAM controller for the 68030 using programmable logic:

How the copy protection in Spyro: YOTD was implemented:

I wish there were more PS/PS2 developers willing to discuss their methods, it's fascinating stuff.

This is the homepage of Ryuichi Takahashi, one of the designers of the NEC V60 CPU:

http://homepage3.nifty.com/alpha-1/index.html

He describes his time at NEC amongst other things, and has a lot of insight about microprocessor design. Almost everything is in English, though the sections are quite small.
